What Aloe smells like

The whole thing is a single soft impression rather than a journey. It's closest to the smell of skin after a shower, or a linen shirt hung outside to dry.

Why customers reorder it

It doesn't trigger headaches. This is the reason people write to us about. Anyone who gets a headache from perfumed products has usually written off candles entirely. Aloe is soft enough and clean enough that it very often works for them — and when someone finds a candle they can actually burn, they buy it forever.

The soy wax question

With a scent this delicate, wax quality is the entire product.

There's nothing loud in Aloe to mask a poor burn. No smoke, no spice, no resin. If the wax burns too hot, the light green notes flash off and you're left with a faintly soapy nothing. If the candle is under-cured, it barely throws at all.

Soy's low melt point and a proper cure are what make a soft scent viable. Our Aloe is poured in small batches and rested before it ships, and it is deliberately wicked slightly conservatively — a cooler, gentler burn suits it.

Managing expectations honestly

Aloe will not fill a large open-plan house. If that's what you need, buy Lemongrass or Ocean Breeze, or step up to the 24oz Prestige.

What Aloe will do is make the room you're actually sitting in feel clean and calm for hours, without ever getting on your nerves. That's a different job, and it's the harder one.

• Full melt pool on the first burn — two to three hours
