Coffee & Whiskey: The Candle That Doesn't Smell Like a Candle
Every scent range needs one that breaks the rules. This is ours.
Coffee & Whiskey is unapologetically a gourmand — a scent built around things you'd consume rather than things that grow. But where most gourmand candles go sugary (vanilla frosting, sugar cookie, birthday cake), this one goes the other way entirely: dark, bitter, oaky and adult.
What it smells like
Top: freshly ground dark roast — that sharp, almost smoky hit when the beans first open up
Heart: oak barrel and aged spirit, warm and slightly sweet with a caramelized edge
Base: tonka, a little vanilla, and a soft leather note holding it together
The result reads like a good bar at nine in the evening, or a kitchen at six in the morning depending on your mood. Rich, never syrupy. There's real bitterness in it, and the bitterness is what makes it work.
Why customers love it
It surprises people. This is the candle guests comment on. "What is that?" is the most common reaction, and it's very rarely followed by anything but "I love it."
It converts candle skeptics. Alongside Fresh Cut Wood, this is the scent we recommend most for people who insist candles aren't for them. It doesn't smell like potpourri or a bathroom. It smells like something you'd want to drink.
It's the gift that lands. Whiskey drinkers, coffee obsessives, anyone with a home bar or a nice espresso setup. It's specific enough to feel personal and universal enough to be safe.
It's an evening scent with real presence. Where a soft scent fades into the background, this one sets a mood. People burn it deliberately, for occasions.
Where to burn it
Kitchen, morning. The coffee notes at the top of the blend genuinely work at 7am. It's a strange and lovely way to start a day.
Living room, evening, with company. Especially with a drink in hand. This is a conversation candle.
Home bar or dining room. The obvious fit. Warm amber light plus this scent and the room does the rest.
Skip it in: bedrooms (too stimulating for most people) and small bathrooms (too rich in a tight space).
Pairings
Coffee & Whiskey + Teakwood — the most decadent combination we sell
Coffee & Whiskey + Campfire — smoke and spirit, a fireside night
Coffee & Whiskey + Cedar — cedar's dryness cuts the richness beautifully
Why the wax matters here
Gourmand notes are the easiest to get wrong. Coffee in particular has a delicate roasted top note that turns acrid the moment it overheats — it's the difference between fresh grounds and a burnt pot left on the warmer.
Soy wax's lower melt point protects it. The roast note stays bright and the oak-and-caramel base warms underneath it instead of overwhelming it. In a hot-burning paraffin candle, this blend would go bitter and one-dimensional within an hour.
Our fragrance blend is also infused with pure essential oils, which give the woody and resinous parts of the base a roundness that synthetic-only blends don't achieve.
Care
First burn: three hours. Full melt pool, edge to edge.
Trim to ¼ inch before every burn.
Four hours max, then let it cool completely.
Lid on — the roasted top note is the first thing to escape in open air.
Size guidance
This is a strong scent. In a small room, the 8oz Classic is plenty and arguably better. For a living room, take the 10oz Signature. The 24oz Prestige is for open-plan spaces and for gifting — the three-wick melt pool gives you the full width of the blend.
Who it's for
The person who takes their coffee seriously. The one with three bottles on a shelf and opinions about all of them. Anyone who's been given four floral candles and quietly regifted every one. And you, on a Friday, when the week is finished and the evening is yours to shape.
Look elsewhere if you want soft, sleepy, or clean — try Lavender, Aloe, or Bamboo.
